What do Mozart’s dramatic symphonies, the hypnotic patterns of Philip Glass and a piece of music performed entirely through handclapping have in common?
More than you might think.
In Another Light brings together centuries of musical imagination in a chamber concert that challenges how we listen to classical music. From Mozart’s powerful melodies to Steve Reich’s rhythmic ingenuity and Philip Glass’s evolving soundscapes, each work offers a different perspective on what music can be.
Adding another dimension is Malaysian composer Yun Ming Tai’s 3 Arias from The Good Woman of Sichuan, performed by vocalist Chaing Yiling, where the expressive power of the human voice takes centre stage.
Under the baton of Kevin Field, the TUTAN Chamber Ensemble brings these contrasting musical worlds together in an intimate live performance that celebrates both the familiar and the unexpected.
Four composers. Different musical perspectives. One extraordinary evening.
Whether you know every note of Mozart or are hearing these contemporary works for the first time, In Another Light invites you to hear classical music with fresh ears.
Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K.183
Bold, restless and full of dramatic energy, Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 reveals a more intense side of the composer. Its urgent rhythms and striking contrasts create an exhilarating musical experience.
Clapping Music
No instruments. Just two performers and their hands.
Built around a simple rhythmic pattern that gradually shifts, Clapping Music transforms one musical idea into a fascinating interplay of rhythm and repetition. A reminder that extraordinary music can emerge from the simplest of sounds.
Symphony No. 3
A different kind of symphonic experience.
Written for string orchestra, Glass’s Third Symphony unfolds through repeating patterns, shifting rhythms and gradually evolving textures. The result is an immersive musical journey that invites you to listen more closely as the music transforms.
3 Arias from The Good Woman of Sichuan featuring vocalist Chaing Yiling
The human voice takes centre stage in this work by composer Yun Ming Tai.
Performed by Chaing Yiling, these three arias bring a new dimension to the concert, exploring the expressive power of vocal music and storytelling alongside the instrumental works.
Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K.550
One of Mozart’s most beloved symphonies, instantly recognisable for its unforgettable opening melody.
Elegant yet emotionally charged, Symphony No. 40 combines lyrical beauty with an underlying sense of urgency, revealing the remarkable depth of Mozart’s musical imagination.
Some music is best experienced up close.
